Haryana's government has extended the state's lockdown until May 24, according to state health minister Anil Vij, who declared the extension on Sunday.

“Mahamari Alert / Surkshit Haryana extended from 17 May to 24 May Stringent steps will be taken to enforce the Alert,” Vij said in a tweet. The Mahamari Alert / Surkshit Haryana has been extended from May 17 to May 24. Strict steps will be taken to enforce the Alert.”

The news comes as Haryana continues to record a steady decline in Covid-19 incidents, with the state officially registering 9,676 new infections on Saturday. On Saturday, the state's health bulletin also announced 144 deaths.
